The Last Throne

Here's a piece with some story to it! Way back in Nov '13 my buddy Tanya and I agreed to do art pieces for each other, which had to be horror themed and feature each other as subjects. Though I always kept this piece at the front of my mind, I really fell out of doing large paintings and ended up stuck in a glut of work, lack of self-confidence, and laziness. 

However, I contracted some serious New Years energy and worked my ass off on this for the last week. The results are staggering and I'm so proud to call it one of the best art pieces I've ever made. Painted entirely in Photoshop. Everything drawn from imagination, bar Tanya herself. 

I wanted to do a kind of hellscape, and really liked the idea of gigantic piles of junk filling it. (I think I may have been a little inspired by the barricade in the 2012 Les Miserables movie). I then had the idea to mash random household items with the horror of bodies and gore to create an unnerving, surreal effect. The lights almost make it look like a mocking Christmas tree.
